The Glory of Autumn

Join Us to Enjoy the Color

Everywhere we look at Finke Gardens there’s more beautiful fall color.  The traditional burningbush euonymus, long treasured for its blast of red, is lost in a sea of burgundy, orange, purple, yellow, gold and green.  Because the plants at Finke Gardens are so well cared for and healthy, they are showing their autumn colors in peak form.

We invite you to stop at the nursery just to enjoy the color yourself, and maybe make a few notes on plants that might be added to your home landscape next season.  All the plants are labeled with their common and scientific names, along with height, spread and flower color if applicable.  Our staff can help answer questions as to how well a plant can do in your setting.  Right plant, right place, great combination for color all season long.

And now for the good stuff, enjoy these photos taken recently at Finke Gardens.

Keep Evergreens Green All Winter

Wilt-Pruf2

Wilt Pruf, available at Finke Gardens in a ready-to-use quart spray bottle, can make the difference in how newly planted evergreens hold their color through the winter months.

Ryan Luckey, our tree & shrub manager, has found that timely application of Wilt Pruf in late fall before freezing temperatures set in, can make a big difference in the amount of browning that occurs on hollies, boxwood azaleas and rhododendrons.  Evergreen burning was particularly bad last winter, so this preventative measure is important to reduce plant damage.  Pines, firs, junipers & spruces planted this season, especially those planted in the fall, could also be sprayed.  It’s generally not necessary to spray established trees as their root systems are developed and more tolerant of the fluctuating conditions that lead to the burning damage.

Finke Gardens staff are also available to help with Wilt Pruf application.  Please call the store at 466.1995 to make arrangements for timely applications.

Wilt Pruf is an anti-transpirants that protects against drying out when evergreen roots were frozen in wintertime, depriving plants of their normal moisture intake. Anti-transpirants were found to be effective on cut Christmas trees, wreaths, and greens to retard needle drop by keeping existing moisture in the foliage.  More about Wilt Pruf
